Move IDSync Service to new system

Brief outline of the steps involved when moving the IDSync Service implementation to a new system

  • Gather credentials that will be needed to configure on the new system

    • Launch IDSync Console App on existing system and click on the appropriate connector tab.

      • Click on each subtab on the left edge

        • Copy the config settings or double check they are documented elsewhere

        • Copy the license key and company name if present

        • Take screen shots as needed

  • Stop the IDSync Service on the existing system

    • Change the service startup from automatic to disabled, so there is no chance of it running

    • It is critical that there is not two systems with the IDSync service running. It must be restricted to a single instance of IDSync service running.

  • SQL Server

    • Click to see the guide for SQL Server move if this also involved a move of the SQL database to a new server

  • Installing IDSync on new system

    • Run the installer on the new system as Administrator

    • After installation, launch IDSync Console App

      • There may be errors as it tries to connect to the old SQL Server

        • Just keep clicking OK until the Console App loads

      • Click on the Connect link in the top left corner of the console app

        • Enter the proper credentials to the SQL Server

          • Click the Test Connection button and correct any errors until it succeeds

          • Click OK to close the dialog

        • Click OK at bottom right to close the IDSync Console

    • Relaunch IDSync Console

      • Click on the tab for the appropriate connector and check the settings, correcting as needed

        • On the License Key subtab, click the ellipses button to verify the key. A popup should appear with a message the Key is valid

  • Domain Controllers

    • Since this is a move and not an upgrade, there is only a need to upgrade the SQL settings if this move also involved a move of the SQL Server

    • Go into Program Files\Identity Syncronizer

    • Right click on the file Syncronizer.Agent.Config and run as Administrator

      • Correct any SQL settings if needed

      • Click the 3 dots to the right of the server name to test the connection

      • You should get a Configuration is valid message

      • Then you can click OK to close the dialog

        • You will get a popup about restarting the DC, but this is not necessary since this was not an upgrade

  • Validation Testing

    • Change a password for an existing user using the ADUC tool

    • Verify it is processed by viewing the Transaction tab of the IDSync Console Tab
